Between sets

With Akuma in hand, some good matches behind him and a desire to share what he knows, we catch up with Beslem at UFA alongside Uzuraka. We talk tournament play and find ideas to try at the next session.

Akuma, despite his low health

Beslem starts competing in Street Fighter V, also playing Luke towards the end of the game’s lifespan. In Street Fighter 6, he prefers Akuma: a character he remains attached to despite his fragility.

For Beslem, Akuma does not need to be the best in the game to compete with the strongest characters. He finds him viable, provided he keeps an eye on his health bar: every mistake can be costly.

9,000 HP: what it means for Akuma

Akuma starts a round with 9,000 health points, compared with 10,000 for most characters: 10% less health. The same combo therefore removes a larger share of his bar. That is why managing risk matters so much with him.

A run he is happy with

Two losses, but no regrets for Beslem. Mizuha and his Cammy remind him of the difficulties of that matchup; against Leshar, the set is close. Between the two, he wins the matches he felt he should win and leaves pleased with his play.

Six sets and a place in the top 96

Beslem finishes tied for 65th out of 512 entrants, with four wins and two losses. After Mizuha, two wins in losers take him out of pools, before the set against Leshar. Here is his six-set run.

Takamura and Belgian events

Beslem knows Belgium through his friendship with Takamura; he also knows CCL. Brussels Challenge remains an event he tries to attend when his trips to Japan do not fall at the same time.

Setups that make you want to return

Playing pools face to face is one of Beslem’s pleasures at UFA. The setups, the atmosphere and the event’s proximity make him want to attend: the tournament matters, and so does being comfortable while playing.
